State Minister Arundika Fernando welcomes a delegation from Canada Sunny Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd. and Canada Solar Valley Green Hydrogen Group Co., Ltd.  to explore collaboration opportunities for establishing a groundbreaking Molten Salt Concentrated Thermal Solar Power Plant and Green Hydro Plant. The team comprised of industry experts in power generation, green hydrogen and Investments vistited the country on November 3rd at the invitation of State Minister Arundika Fernando to advance the development of a zero-carbon new energy system to combat the global climate challenges.

During a month long visit, delegation was greeted by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Nimal Lanza, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera, and Dr. Sulakshana Jayawardena, Seceretary to the President.

Agreements were reached to construct 100MW-200MW molten salt tower storage concentrated solar power plants, photovoltaic power stations, and a green hydrogen and methanol integrated base capable of producing 80,000 tons annually, across the northern, eastern, and southern regions of our country.

Estimated to generate 880 million Kilowatts hours of electricity annually, the project aims to harness solar energy using molten salt technology for uninterrupted power generation day and night. Additionally, it plans to produce 80,000 tons of hydrogen annually and integrate photovoltaic solar greenhouses for vertical farm for local vegetable supply.

With a significant impact on employment, the project foresees hiring up to 1500 individuals during construction and employing 1,200 to 1,500 upon operation, benefiting local communities and businesses.

The proposed Molten Salt Concentrated Thermal Solar Power Plant, designed as a zero-carbon emission solution, aligns with Sri Lanka's renewable energy objectives and is poised to contribute significantly to environmental sustainability. The objective is to propel Sri Lanka towards energy independence, progressing from green power to green hydrogen to green methanol.

Canada Solar Valley Green Hydrogen Group Co., Ltd is expected to invest approximately $1.25 billion USD in this project in stages.
